Incoherent Book Review: One Day

18 Jul

DAMN THIS BOOK.

Finishing this book, I felt this reaction that I felt once before, from watching that goddamn 500 Days of Summer. So yeah, DAMN this book.

Semi-spoilery recap/doodles from an unstable mind after the cut >>>>

Recipe: Caramel Popcorn

14 Jul

My favorite thing about Blitz Megaplex is their caramel popcorn. Since nowadays we Indonesians have to rely on our favorite lapak DVD for quality entertainment (except if “Arisan Berondong” is your cup of tea), here’s the recipe so you can enjoy morsels of deliciousness at home while watching low-quality images on your 14-inch Blaupunkt screen using the Vitron DVD player that you bought on sale for 150 ribu.

Caramel Popcorn

Popcorn
3 flat tablespoon of dried corn kernels
3 tablespoon of cooking oil (any will do, I use Filma)

Caramel
200 gr of fine sugar (I use Gulaku’s Premium sugar — NOT ICING SUGAR)
2 tablespoon of unsalted butter

Utensils:
Greased nonstick & flat baking pan/ foil
Nonstick saucepan with glass lid
Wooden spoon – grease the spoon-y part with grease before using

Recipe: Mashed Potato

12 Jul

Ingredients:

4 big potatoes – steamed whole until really really mashable; just to be safe I steamed them for an hour or so.

250 ml of full cream milk

a teaspoon of salt – adjust to taste

1/2 teaspoon of pepper (I used freshly cracked blackpepper — use more if you’re using ground white pepper)

1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg. I prefer freshly grated nutmeg though.

(THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT BTW>>) 150 gr of unsalted butter. Feel free to add more.

HOW:

Peel potatoes and mash them. Since I don’t have a potato masher, I used fork which worked ok with super hot potato.

Bring milk, salt, pepper, nutmeg into a simmer. Mix butter while whisking them lightly to prevent splitting. Add mashed potato, and stir vigorously with a whisk. Actually you can use any kind of mixing spatulas, however I found out that using a whisk gives you the best fluffy results. Bring the mixture to a boil or until the potato mixture gets slightly gluggy. Ready to be served hot. I am not a big cheese person (SHOCKING) and this mashed potato is creamy enough without any added cheese. However, feel free to mix in some mild cheese (cheddar, etc).

Letter from Bluey

11 Jul

Dear Mom and Dad,

How are you? Fine? Still fighting a hoard of green pigs with uncanny architectural skillz? I wish you luck in your next endeavor, may it be Angry Birds: Fight Against Decepticons Edition or the Angry Birds: True Blood Edition. As you all know, people are looking forward to see our kind taking sides with a preferably naked Viking vampire, so good luck on that endeavor. I know that you all are still mad because I chose to leave the Angry Boids’ universe and venture to the real world. I thought it would be a great chance for me to broaden my horizon, and as it turns out it does. Kind of. Really.

I was sitting pretty with my tribesbirdies when a girl came in and pick me out of the bunch. I know there’s something wrong when she said “This looks like an amazing toy for Mochimon!!!!” but as you all know of me, I tried to stay positive. Toys are usually treated with love and cared for. Some actually are essential to keep a child (?) active and creative. At the time I was so excited because I was about to take part in a child’s (?) development. To think that I would have a part in his future potential, I was feeling buoyant and ready for the adventure.

Shin Men – La Piazza

6 Jul

I always remember Shin Men fondly from my amazing time in Bandung. So when I found out that they opened a stall in my usual haunting place, La Piazza; I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to try it again.

I finally got my fix one Wednesday morning-ish when I was on leave. They share dining place with some other tenants in the spacious area just beside La Piazza’s main entry, just right in front of Sour Sally.
